Palm Bay Mayor Rob Medina Releases December 2023 Mayor's Message

It's a great day Palm Bay!

Post Date:12/01/2023

First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who came out to the Veterans Day Parade. Seeing so many smiling faces out there to honor our veterans was truly a great sight. We even got to honor a true hero, Marc Gray, with a flag raising ceremony before the parade. I also want to send a special thank you out to the American Legion Post 117 for partnering with us to host our first annual celebration event at Veterans Memorial Park following the parade.

Although the Viva Brevard Festival had to be rescheduled for weather, there was a fantastic turnout, and it was a wonderful afternoon filled with live music, entertainment, cultural exhibits, vendors, great food, and dancing!

As we enter the holiday season and approach the conclusion of 2023, I've dedicated a considerable amount of time to reflecting on the past year. As we near the end of this year, I wish to express my gratitude to all of you for accompanying me on this journey. Together with my fellow Councilmembers, we have tirelessly worked throughout the year to contribute to the improvement and brightening of Palm Bay, and I can confidently state that we have achieved significant progress.

I want to reassure all the residents of Palm Bay that my top priority is to serve this wonderful community to the best of my ability, and my commitment to accountability, integrity, and transparency remains unwavering. Serving this community, which I hold dear, is an incredible privilege. Palm Bay is, in my eyes, the greatest city on Earth, and I am eagerly anticipating and fully prepared for the upcoming year.

The City of Palm Bay has several events to get you in the holiday spirit! Kick off the holiday season as we light up our Palm Bay Christmas Tree at City Hall on Friday, December 1, starting at 6:30 PM. Enjoy performances by the Palm Bay Elementary School Chorus and the Heritage High School Ambassador Show Choir. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting United Way of Brevard. After the tree lighting ceremony, stay and watch the movie The Santa Clause (PG) on our giant outdoor movie screen. Bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the movie under the stars. Also, don’t forget to give back to those less fortunate. If you are able, bring an unwrapped toy to our tree-lighting ceremony to benefit our Toys for Tots toy drive.

Come back the following evening for the Biggest Holiday Parade on the Space Coast! The 2023 City of Palm Bay Holiday Light Parade returns to Malabar Road again this year on Saturday, December 2, starting at 6 PM. The 3-mile parade will leave the Eastern Florida State College campus and head north on San Filippo Drive, and it will then move west on Malabar Road and end at Minton Road, in front of City Hall. Dozens of brightly lit floats, high school marching bands, cheer squads, motorized vehicles, and more will delight the crowd and usher in the holiday season.

Who doesn’t love a F-R-double-E, free, event? I know I do! Join me for the 15th Annual Family Christmas Extravaganza at Fred Poppe Regional Park on December 16 from 10 AM to 5 PM! This event – the largest Christmas party on the Space Coast – holds a special place in my heart. Presented in partnership with The House Church, the Family Christmas Extravaganza is a free community event featuring live entertainment, free popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, and drinks. Free activities include bounce houses, horse rides, face painting, giveaways, and SO much more!

During this joyful season, I'd like to open my heart and extend my warmest holiday greetings to all Palm Bayers and friends, whether they're near or far. I hope and pray that your season will be filled with happiness, togetherness, and abundant blessings. As we celebrate, let's always keep in mind the true meaning of the season. Christmas spirit isn't found in the gifts we exchange but in the presence of our Savior. May you receive the gift of faith this Christmas and be showered with numerous blessings in the upcoming New Year. For some of us, we say HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Palm Bay!
