Burn Ban in Effect

On April 24, 2025, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) for Brevard County reached 500. Because of this, Brevard County implemented a ban on open burning pursuant to County Code Section 50. This includes campfires, bonfires, trash-burning and other similar open incineration. Prohibitions do not include state-permitted burns, use of barbeque grills, authorized public fireworks displays and fireworks sales which are authorized by state law. The Palm Bay Fire Rescue Fire Chief has imposed a burn ban within the city, effective April 24th, 2025, until further notice.

Post Date:03/03/2023 1:29 PM

It's a great day Palm Bay!

On February 7th, the Palm Bay Police Department held its 2022 annual awards ceremony at City Hall. I was #PalmBayProud to be in attendance and speak to our officers who put their lives on the line each and every day for the citizens of our great city. Chief Mario Augello recognized several categories of recipients, including the Medal of Valor, Life Saving Awards, and Meritorious Awards, to name a few. Chief Augello recognized the following members for their excellent service throughout the year:

V-Cop of the Year – Ken Nye
Communications Officer of the Year – Michael Ziegler
Civilian Employee of the Year – DBS Latisha Dean
Officer of the Year – SVU Detective Nicole Caroffino
Chief's Leadership Award – Brett Naymik

Congratulations to these brave men and women; I thank you for your service!

On February 8th, we held our second annual State of Palm Bay Breakfast, which was a huge success! Attendees received updates on our vision for future growth and development in Palm Bay from me, alongside City Manager Suzanne Sherman, Growth Management Director Alix Bernard, and Community & Economic Director Nancy Bunt. We focused on providing highlights of the many projects underway in the City, as well as sharing an update on our progress to update our citywide Comprehensive Plan and details of our economic development programs and initiatives. We also discussed the foundation that City Council and staff have been building for the City as we set a new vision for the future, a vision to make Palm Bay "the greatest city on the face of the earth"! Thank you to The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce and Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovative Design - CAMID for hosting this event!

Don't forget, Sunday, March 12th at 2:00am starts daylight saving time, so be sure to Spring Forward Palm Bay!

On March 17th everyone has a little bit of Irish in them, I hope you all have a happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 18th is quickly approaching! There is still time to become a sponsor or purchase tickets for the 2023 Mayor's Ball. As Mayor, I feel it is my duty to give back to the community and since this cause is so near and dear to my heart, I will once again be raising funds for the construction of a new monument at Sacrifice Park, a memorial honoring first responders who gave their lives while serving our great city and the Brevard County community.

It is my mission to give our valued first responders a memorial worthy of their sacrifice, of which they be proud, and I would like to invite you to be a part of this effort. I humbly ask for your continued support of this effort by becoming an event sponsor or contributing a donation. Please help me build a lasting tribute for the brave men and women who serve our community with honor and distinction every day.
