The Major Case Unit (MCU) is comprised of a Sergeant, a Corporal and five Detectives. The unit is responsible for investigating a wide variety of crimes that include but are not limited to; homicide, robbery, aggravated battery by use of a weapon or with serious bodily injury, bomb threats, missing adults, unattended deaths, overdose deaths, shooting incidents, carjacking, home invasion, kidnapped adults, arson, suicide and threats of mass violence involving adults. The Major Case Unit also maintains partnerships with federal agencies such as ATF and the FBI to ensure federal prosecution when applicable.

This unit works a structured daily schedule, and detectives rotate an on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage.

Special Investigations Unit

The Special Investigations Unit investigates narcotics activity and organized crime that directly impacts the quality of life for the citizens of Palm Bay. Crime Suppression Unit

The Crime Suppression Unit is a proactive street unit that primarily focuses on violent offenders and criminal activity throughout our city. They conduct proactive patrol in high crime areas, assist other units by conducting surveillance, gathering intelligence, and locating dangerous offenders. This unit works closely with federal agencies to ensure proper resources are allocated. 

Special Victims Unit

The Special Victims Unit investigates sensitive and high-priority cases involving children and vulnerable adults. The unit handles all sex-related crimes, abuse and neglect cases involving children, the elderly and vulnerable adults, Department of Children and Families related reports, missing juveniles, ICAC investigations, CSAM cases, traveling to meet a minor offenses, and the management and monitoring of all sex offenders within the City of Palm Bay. One of the detectives within this unit serves as the agency's forensic specialist, responsible for the examination and digital download of phones and all other electronic devices through the forensics lab.

General Crimes Unit

The General Crimes Unit (GCU) consists of one Sergeant, one Corporal, and three Detectives. The unit investigates various felony property crimes which consists of vehicle, residential, and commercial burglaries, grand theft cases, and investigations involving stolen firearms. This unit also investigates fraud cases and includes a detective attached to the United States Secret Service Task Force, who is dedicated to investigating higher level frauds. 

 The General Crimes Unit incurs the division's highest percentage of reported incidents. The unit's primary goals are to determine trends, develop proactive means to prevent crime, and educate the public on safer practices.

Crime Scene Investigators

This Unit is responsible for processing all major crime scenes requiring precise, methodical, and detailed forensic documentation. The unit handles homicides, shootings, burglaries, robberies, traffic-related fatalities, residential search warrants, and any other scene requiring comprehensive evidence collection and scene reconstruction. 

 In addition to on-scene responsibilities, the unit oversees all DNA testing and ballistic analysis for the department while working collaboratively with other entities to conduct and support this specialized forensic work. This unit works closely with all units within the Uniform Services and Criminal Investigations Division, providing consistent and reliable forensic support through each investigation. 

Crime Scene Technicians maintain a structured daily schedule and also rotate on-call duties to ensure 24-hour coverage. 

Youth Services Unit

Our Youth Services Unit fosters and maintains relationships with the troubled youth within the City of Palm Bay. They accomplish this through home visits, mentoring, and offer referrals to the parents. They remain in constant contact with entities of the juvenile justice system and attend quarterly Juvenile Assessment Center meetings as well as any state mandated district security training. This unit also conducts monthly drills and threat management meetings at 11 public elementary schools and six charter schools.
