Chief Jeff Spears, a Palm Bay native, was born and raised in   our city and   graduated from Palm Bay High School. He   attended the police academy at  Eastern Florida State   College and began his law enforcement career with   the   Palm Bay Police Department in 2010. Chief Spears holds a  bachelor's   degree from Barry University and a master’s   degree in public administration   from the Florida Institute of   Technology.

 

Chief Spears quickly distinguished himself as a leader among his peers, serving in a variety of units here at the department including patrol officer, crime suppression, special operations, field training officer, and patrol corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2015, where he served as a patrol supervisor, internal affairs investigator, and supervisor over the Major Case Unit.

 

 In 2020, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as a patrol watch commander, public information officer, and Lieutenant over the Community Services Division. Following his promotion to Commander in 2022, he was assigned to the Community Services Division, Uniform Services Division and Support Services Division. In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Police before being appointed to Chief of Police in April of 2026.

Throughout his career, Chief Spears has served on the Palm Bay Police Explorers Board, The Fraternal Order of Police Executive Board, and as a member of our SWAT Team. He is an award recipient of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Series, a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police, Session 84 and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 292.

 Chief Spears' vision includes a department that our community trusts, our officers are proud to serve in, and a city that can rely on us.
