Burn Ban in Effect

On April 24, 2025, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) for Brevard County reached 500. Because of this, Brevard County implemented a ban on open burning pursuant to County Code Section 50. This includes campfires, bonfires, trash-burning and other similar open incineration. Prohibitions do not include state-permitted burns, use of barbeque grills, authorized public fireworks displays and fireworks sales which are authorized by state law. The Palm Bay Fire Rescue Fire Chief has imposed a burn ban within the city, effective April 24th, 2025, until further notice.

To efficiently respond to requests and manage the employment of off-duty police officers, The Palm Bay Police Department, FL has partnered with Extra Duty Solutions to provide services related to hiring off-duty officers effective January 1, 2025. 

You will have access to a full service customer portal where you can submit job requests, track your job status, review invoices, make payments, and much more. You will also have access to our dedicated Extra Duty Solutions account team available 24/7/365 if you ever have a question or need assistance.  

Rates: 
Rates are inclusive of all fees, and are per officer, per hour: 
*Fees included but are not limited to agency admin fees, scheduling fees, etc.

Here are some agency policies you need to be aware of: 

  • There is a four (4) hour minimum that must be charged for every extra-duty detail.  
  • Hours will be rounded up to the next 15 minute increment. 
  • The department requires a 24 hour notice to cancel a detail. If you cancel inside of this window, you will be charged four hours for each officer scheduled. 
  • The Palm Bay Police Department will make the final determination on the required staffing for your detail request. Agency’s staffing requirements: One (1) sergeant shall be required for each assignment requiring six (6) to ten (10) officers. Two (2) sergeants shall be required for groups of eleven (11) to twenty (20) officers. Three (3) sergeants shall be required for groups of twenty-one (21) to thirty (30) officers. One (1) lieutenant shall be required whenever an extra-duty detail requires two (2) to five (5) sergeants. One (1) commander shall be required whenever an extra-duty detail requires two (2) or more lieutenants. 
  • Holiday rate applies - New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Presidents Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
