The City of Palm Bay proudly commemorated the grand opening of Sacrifice Park with a heartfelt ribbon-cutting ceremony held on the morning of March 28, 2025. The event was attended by community members, first responders, local and state officials, and the families of fallen heroes, all gathered to honor the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Mayor Rob Medina opened the ceremony with a powerful address, welcoming attendees and recognizing the significance of the moment. “This day has been a long time coming,” said Mayor Medina. “Here in Palm Bay, we know the heart-wrenching reality that some of our brave and faithful public servants never return home. They answer the call, protect and serve, and sometimes, they pay the ultimate price.”
The event began with an invocation by Chaplain Ron Lugo, followed by a moving rendition of the National Anthem performed by Nina Jones.
Mayor Medina expressed deep gratitude to the partners and supporters who helped bring the vision for Sacrifice Park to life, including the Brevard County Commission and the Tourism Development Council for a $250,000 grant, and Florida legislators for securing a $150,000 state appropriation. He also acknowledged the continued support of the Palm Bay City Council, both past and present, and thanked the generous donors who supported the project through the annual Palm Bay Mayor’s Ball.
The ceremony featured remarks from Deputy City Manager Juliet Misconi, Palm Bay Police Chief Mario Augello, and Palm Bay Fire Chief Richard Stover, who each spoke about what the new memorial means to Palm Bay and to the first responder community.
“This memorial is not just for law enforcement,” Mayor Medina emphasized. “It is for all first responders who dedicate their lives to protecting others. Today, thanks to a shared commitment, we have created a sacred space where families can come to remember and reflect—and where future generations can learn about the heroes who came before them.”
Sacrifice Park serves as a lasting tribute to the City’s fallen heroes, ensuring their names and legacies are never forgotten. The ribbon cutting marked more than the unveiling of a new public space—it marked the City's enduring promise to honor those who gave everything in service to others.
