The City of Palm Bay is proud to announce that Michael Hussion, an Engineer I with the Growth Management Department, has earned national certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager from the Association of State Floodplain Managers. In his role, Michael will provide expert guidance in floodplain management, helping to safeguard our community from the impacts of severe weather and rising sea levels.
A Certified Floodplain Manager is recognized for demonstrating expertise through rigorous education, experience, and examination. This certification ensures a comprehensive understanding of floodplain management practices that can reduce flood risks and enhance public safety. Additionally, Michael’s credential strengthens the City of Palm Bay’s Community Rating System (CRS) score established by FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), contributing to the City’s continued status as a Class 7 community and can result in lowered insurance rates for Palm Bay residents.
“Many thanks to the City of Palm Bay for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this great team,” said Michael Hussion. “I am truly excited to continue the hard work of those before me who laid a solid foundation for serving and protecting our residents. After 40 years of appreciating Florida’s water resources and 20 years of public service in environmental protection and floodplain/stormwater management, there is nowhere else I would rather be than right here with you.”
At the March 6th Regular Council Meeting Mayor Medina presented a proclamation recognizing March 3-9, 2025 as Flood Awareness Week.
