At approximately, 11:56 AM, the City of Palm Bay Fire Department received a call from Republic Services regarding a discarded item that ignited inside of the waste collection truck, causing a fire to ignite. Republic Services instructed the driver to find a safe and secure place to eject the load to ensure the safety of the driver and the public. The Palm Bay Fire Department arrived on scene at 12:02 PM and the smoldering parts were immediately extinguished. The driver is safe and there does not appear to be any damage to the trash collection truck. Republic Services is on-site recovering the load, expected to be cleaned up by the end of the day today.
