Thermal imaging is a crucial tool for firefighters. It uses infrared technology to convert heat into visible light, allowing firefighters to see through smoke, darkness, or heat-permeable barriers.
This technology provides critical information to first responders, helping them size up a fire incident, track fire growth, locate victims, other first responders, and egress routes. Palm Bay Fire Rescue was very fortunate to find funds to purchase 47 personal Thermal Imaging Cameras (TICs) to place one camara on every air pack on every piece of apparatus in the department. Many departments throughout the country carry only 1 camera on each apparatus.
The cameras are invaluable tools in modern firefighting, enhancing operational effectiveness and safety. These investments exemplify Palm Bay Fire Rescue's dedication to staying at the forefront of technology for the benefit of both its personnel and the community it serves.
