CarFit is Headed Your Way!

Post Date:07/27/2023 11:40 AM

CarFit is an educational program created by the American Society on Aging and developed in collaboration with AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association. It is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them. The program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers and/or increase their mobility in the community.

Driver safety programs improve adult driver safety by addressing cognitive abilities and skills; however, older drivers can also improve their safety by ensuring their cars are properly adjusted for them. A proper fit in one’s car can greatly increase not only the driver’s safety but also the safety of others.

That's where CarFit events come in. Trained volunteers provide information to ensure the safest “fit” for older drivers and their vehicles. Whether it's adjusting your seat height, steering wheel position, or mirror placement, small changes can make a big difference in your overall driving experience. A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Join Palm Bay PD on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the Greater Palm Bay Senior Center located at 1275 Culver Drive NE from 8-10:00am. Registration is required. Please contact vcop@palmbayflorida.org or call 321-953-8987.
