Staffing Shortages Prompts Changes at the Aquatic Center

Post Date:09/09/2021 2:20 PM

The Palm Bay Recreation Department is currently facing staffing shortages at the Palm Bay Aquatic Center, 420 Community College Parkway SE, due to a limited number of available certified lifeguards. Certain numbers of certified lifeguards are required by law to open the pool and keep the public safe. Due to the shortage of lifeguards, there may be times when the hours of operation or maximum capacities may need to be adjusted to ensure proper lifeguard coverage at the facility.

Current fall hours for the center are Monday through Friday from 6 to 10 a.m. for lap swimming, and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. for open swimming.  High School Swim Teams are utilizing the facility Monday through Friday evenings.

Citizens who plan on visiting the Palm Bay Aquatic Center are encouraged to call the  Aquatic Center hotline at (321) 726-5680, visit the Center’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/PalmBayAquaticCenter, or call the Center directly at (321) 952-2833 to make sure they are open for use before visiting the facility.
