Palm Bay Fire-Rescue consists of six fire stations that cover the City 24/7 with fire and medical services. However, a station may not be staffed at all times due to emergency responses and assignments.

To be considered for employment as a firefighter with the City, the following requirements must be met:

• Valid Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance from the Florida State Fire Marshal, Bureau of Fire Standards and Training
• Current State of Florida Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician license
• Current Basic Life Support certification from a state approved provider
• United States Citizen or permanent resident
• Florida Driver’s License, Class E
• Sign an affidavit attesting that you have been tobacco free for at least one year prior to application, and remain tobacco free
• Ability to pass a criminal and driving background investigation
• Successfully complete a firefighter physical examination

We are pleased to announce that Palm Bay Fire Rescue has recently invested significantly in enhancing firefighter safety and performance. We have acquired state-of-the-art 3M Scott Air-Pak X3 Pros, designed to provide our firefighters with the latest respiratory protection and operational efficiency advancements.

The 3M Scott Air-Pak's are self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) meticulously engineered to meet the demanding needs of our firefighting operations. They have been designed with ergonomics and comfort in mind. They feature adjustable straps, padded backplates, and lightweight construction to reduce fatigue during extended operations. Every component of these Air-Paks can be cleaned and sanitized. Our regulators have an integrated heads-up display (HUD), providing firefighters with real-time information, such as air pressure and remaining air supply, without compromising their line of sight. Our new higher-capacity air cylinders benefit our firefighters by giving them extended operational time in hazardous environments. These new cylinders also come with an adapted rapid refill snap change feature, significantly reducing the time to change air cylinders.

Our primary goal at Palm Bay Fire Rescue is to ensure the safety of our firefighters and the community we serve. With these new 3M Scott Air-Pak X3 Pros, we are taking a significant step forward in enhancing our operations and protecting our personnel. We have also added the opportunity to improve our Air-Pak's with Monitor Telemetry Software, which will help our commanding officers track their firefighter's air supply, location in a hazardous environment, and the ability to send a signal to evacuate the structure on their HUD.

Sharps Disposal

Palm Bay Fire-Rescue participates in Brevard County's Sharps Program. Procedures for collection of used sharps must be followed to prevent any possibility of contamination.

• Sharps must be placed in the official sharps storage container by the owner of the sharps container.
•  Sharps containers are not to be left unattended at any collection facility.

Please understand fire personnel are on call 24 hours a day, and may be out of their station on a call when you arrive.

Palm Bay Fire Stations 1, 4 and Brevard County Station 83 are the only designated spots in Palm Bay for sharps disposal.

• Station 1 is located at: 1201 Port Malabar Blvd NE.
• Station 4 is located at: 1200 San Filippo Dr. SE.
• Brevard County Station 83 is located at: 5148 Minton Rd NW.

Again, sharps containers are not to be left unattended per biomedical waste laws.

Medicine Disposal

Palm Bay Fire Rescue does not accept medicines for disposal. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has information online on how to dispose of unused medicines at home. FDA Guidelines for drug disposal.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, working with state and local law enforcement agencies, periodically sponsors National Prescription Drug Take-Back Days where you can turn in your unused or expired medicine for safe disposal.

If your smoke alarm was installed before May, 2002 it needs to be replaced.

Palm Bay Fire-Rescue will check the smoke detector batteries of any elderly or disabled citizen of Palm Bay free of charge.

Palm Bay Fire-Rescue has made arrangements to use the CRIME LINE as the ARSON HOTLINE. If you have information on possible causes of recent fires, call the hotline, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Caller should state:

• The date.
• The location of the fire.
• Any other information the caller feels is pertinent.

All tips on the hotline will be researched. Rewards are possible for those who leave their names. The information does not necessarily have to be about fires in the Palm Bay area. If anyone knows information about fires in other areas of the county, they may call the hotline and leave the information.

This toll free hotline number is through the Florida Forestry Arson Alert, Inc. Program. You can also call this number for information leading to the arrest of an arsonist. THE "JEFFERY ALLAN BURGIN" SCHOLARSHIP

February 26, 1962 – June 20, 2012

The Palm Bay Firefighters Community Benevolent, Inc. and the Family of Jeff Burgin, have established this Scholarship to honor Jeff’s memory.  Jeff served three (3) years with the Florida Forestry Service as a Firefighter and sixteen (16) years as a Firefighter with the City of Palm Bay Fire Department. He was a Driver/Engineer, Paramedic, and was posthumously promoted to Fire Lieutenant.
