First and foremost, I want to congratulate the Class of 2026 on reaching this important milestone. Graduation represents years of hard work, perseverance, and growth, and each of you should be proud of what you have accomplished. As you step into this next chapter, know that your future is full of opportunity. The world is ready for your ideas, your talents, and the impact only you can make. Stay curious, continue to learn, and don’t be afraid to take on new challenges along the way. Wherever your journey leads, I wish you success, fulfillment, and the confidence to pursue your goals with purpose and determination.

School is officially out, and that means our streets and neighborhoods are now filled with children enjoying their summer break. I urge everyone to drive carefully, stay alert, watch for kids crossing streets or riding bikes, and slow down in residential areas. Let’s make safety a top priority and help ensure a fun and accident-free summer for our community.

At the May 21 Regular Council Meeting, I presented my annual State of the City Address. Pursuant to our City Charter, the Mayor is required to present this annual message, not just as a matter of duty but as an opportunity to reflect on where we've been, recognize how far we've come, and chart a path forward for our great city. Over the past year, we’ve made meaningful investments in public safety, infrastructure, economic development, and quality of life. We’ve strengthened our foundation while continuing to plan for the future of a growing city. And through it all, our commitment to service, transparency, and doing what’s right for our residents has remained at the center of every decision. June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, and as Floridians, we know that tropical weather is an unfortunate but inevitable part of life. This hurricane season, I'd like to encourage all Palm Bayers to have a plan in place to ensure that you and your loved ones are prepared. The City of Palm Bay offers valuable resources to help you prepare for hurricane season. Visit www.palmbayfl.gov/hurricaneguide or pick up one of our free hurricane preparedness guides at City Hall to learn how to build a hurricane kit, home preparation tips, evacuation, and shelter info, and how to stay informed before, during, and after a storm. Remember, when it comes to tropical storms and hurricanes – plan, don't panic – and enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that you'll be ready the next time a storm hits. Stay safe, Palm Bay!

In June, we pause to remember D-Day, a defining moment in World War II that changed the course of history. On June 6, 1944, Allied forces carried out the largest amphibious invasion ever, landing on the beaches of Normandy and beginning the effort to liberate Europe from Nazi control. We honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of those who stepped onto those shores under unimaginable conditions, driven by a commitment to defend freedom. Their bravery and determination remain a lasting reminder of what it means to serve a cause greater than oneself.

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress approved the design of the United States flag, establishing a symbol that has come to represent our nation’s identity and values. More than a century later, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially designated June 14 as Flag Day in recognition of that moment. As we raise our flags, we are reminded that each star and stripe reflects the sacrifice, courage, and resilience of those who have shaped our country. It stands as a powerful symbol of unity and the enduring spirit of the American people.

Also on June 14, we recognize the birthday of the United States Army, established in 1775 when the Continental Congress created a unified force to fight for our nation’s independence. For nearly 250 years, the Army has represented strength, service, and sacrifice. From the earliest days of the Revolutionary War to missions around the world today, soldiers have answered the call to defend our freedoms and protect the values we hold dear. On this day, we honor the dedication, courage, and commitment of all who have served, past and present.

June 14 also marks the birthday of President Donald J. Trump, our nation’s 45th and 47th President. I want to wish him a happy, healthy birthday and thank him for his service and leadership to our nation.

Juneteenth marks the day Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to announce the end of slavery. It serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing pursuit of justice, equality, and freedom. As we reflect on this day, we honor the strength, culture, and contributions of the African American community and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and united Palm Bay for all.

On June 21, we celebrate Father’s Day, a time to recognize and honor the fathers and father figures who have made a lasting impact in our lives. Fathers play a vital role in shaping families and strengthening our community. Through their guidance, support, and example, they help instill values that carry on for generations. Whether through quiet moments of encouragement or leading by example, their influence is felt in countless ways. We thank all fathers for their dedication, love, and commitment. Your role does not go unnoticed, and your impact continues to shape the future of our community.

From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, head out to the Eastern Florida State College Palm Bay Campus (250 Community College Pkwy SE) for an evening packed with energy, community spirit, and red, white, and blue pride. We’re bringing back Zambelli Fireworks for a show you won’t want to miss, along with a great lineup of food trucks, local vendors, and family-friendly fun. This isn’t just another Fourth of July… it’s part of a once-in-a-generation celebration of our nation’s history, and Palm Bay is ready to light up the sky. About Mayor Rob Medina

Mayor Rob Medina has been a resident of Palm Bay for 32 years. Originally from New York, New York, Mayor Medina chose to settle in Palm Bay after proudly serving with the United States Marine Corps. A servant leader through God, honor, and integrity, Mayor Medina pledges to build public trust with the community by presiding over an open and accessible government in service to the citizens of the great city of Palm Bay.

Medina holds a Master of Arts Degree in Theology, graduating magna cum laude from Life Christian University. He serves as the Director of Ministry at the House Family Ministries Church in Palm Bay. Mayor Medina is happily married to his wife Lissette. He is a father of six children and the grandfather of ten. As a Palm Bay resident, Medina has long been an active supporter of the community serving as a youth mentor, as well as a football and baseball coach.

In addition to his roles with the City of Palm Bay and the House Family Ministries, Medina serves as the Director of Community and Military Relations for United States Congressman Bill Posey. Through his work, Medina has played an integral role in obtaining official recognitions and awards such as the Congressional Gold Medal (U.S. Army’s 65^th Infantry Regiment), the Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal for local veterans who displayed notable heroic or meritorious achievement of service during their time in the Armed Forces. In 2019, Medina was honored with his second Congressional Medal of Recognition for his longstanding service to the veteran community.

Mayor Medina also served as an Aide to former Brevard County Commissioner Jackie Colon from 2000 until 2008. While working with the Commissioner, he built a strong foundation in local governance and developed a deep understanding of the issues that have the greatest impact on the economic success and quality of life of the residents of Palm Bay.

Using his strong ties in our community and the experience gained from years of public service, Mayor Medina will work hard to build a brighter tomorrow for the people of Palm Bay.
