School is officially out, and that means our streets and neighborhoods are now filled with children enjoying their summer break. I urge everyone to drive carefully, stay alert, watch for kids crossing streets or riding bikes, and slow down in residential areas. Let’s make safety a top priority and help ensure a fun and accident-free summer for our community.
At the May 15 Regular Council Meeting, I debuted my annual State of the City Address. Pursuant to our City Charter, the Mayor is required to present this annual message, not just as a matter of duty but as an opportunity to reflect on where we've been, recognize how far we've come, and chart a path forward for our great city. The video highlights the city's achievements and future plans. Palm Bay received national recognition for its growth in high-tech industries, affordability, and quality of life. Economic development initiatives attracted major projects, creating jobs and investment. Infrastructure improvements, including road paving and stormwater system enhancements, were prioritized. And I reaffirmed my dedication to shaping Palm Bay into a vibrant and resilient community. The video can be viewed at www.palmbayfl.gov/SOC.
The next morning, I had the privilege of representing the City of Palm Bay at the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce's 17th Annual Mayors Breakfast, hosted by Sheriff Wayne Ivey. It was an excellent opportunity to share exciting updates from Palm Bay with a room full of local leaders and community partners. I'm always proud to highlight our incredible progress and remind everyone why I believe Palm Bay is the greatest city on the face of the Earth! #PalmBayProud
June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, and as Floridians, we know that tropical weather is an unfortunate but inevitable part of life. This hurricane season, I'd like to encourage all Palm Bayers to have a plan in place to ensure that you and your loved ones are prepared. The City of Palm Bay offers valuable resources to help you prepare for hurricane season. Visit www.palmbayfl.gov/hurricaneguide or pick up one of our free hurricane preparedness guides at City Hall to learn how to build a hurricane kit, home preparation tips, evacuation, and shelter info, and how to stay informed before, during, and after a storm. Remember, when it comes to tropical storms and hurricanes – plan, don't panic – and enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that you'll be ready the next time a storm hits. Stay safe, Palm Bay!
In June, we honor D-Day, a turning point in World War II that shaped the future of the free world. On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched the largest seaborne invasion in history, storming the beaches of Normandy to begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi control. We remember the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the soldiers who faced relentless fire to defend freedom. Their bravery, resilience, and unwavering resolve will forever be etched in history and our hearts.
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution codifying the design of the flag of the United States of America. Years later, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day to honor that historic moment. As we proudly raise our flags, let us reflect on the meaning behind every star and stripe, a tribute to the sacrifice, courage, and resilience of those who shaped our nation's path.
Also, on June 14, we celebrate the birthday of the United States Army, marking its founding in 1775, when the Continental Congress established a unified force to fight for our nation's independence. For nearly two and a half centuries, the U.S. Army has stood as a symbol of strength, service, and sacrifice. From the battlefields of the Revolutionary War to missions around the globe today, soldiers have answered the call to defend our freedom and uphold the values that define our nation. On this day, we honor the dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment of all who have served in the Army, past and present.
June 15, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who lead with love, strength, and unwavering support. As a proud father myself, I know the joy and responsibility that comes with raising the next generation. Fathers play a vital role in shaping our families and our communities through their guidance, wisdom, and example. To all the dads out there, thank you for your sacrifices, your dedication, and the countless ways you show up each and every day. May your day be filled with love, laughter, and well-deserved appreciation. Happy Father's Day, Palm Bay!
Juneteenth marks the day Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to announce the end of slavery. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for justice, equality, and freedom in our nation's history. As we reflect on this important day, let us honor the resilience, culture, and contributions of the African American community and continue working together to build a more inclusive and united Palm Bay for all.
